Dr. Seuss:
Theodor Suess Geisel, born in 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. His mother, Henrietta, sang the children rhymes from her youth. His father, Theodor, was a brew-master. Suess's drawings in many books reflect on his home town. He became editor-in-chief of the Jack-O-Lantern humor magazine. Suess was his middle name and mothers maiden name. He went to Oxford University in England, but got bored and toured Europe instead. His wife, Helen Palmer, became a children's author and editor. While in business with magazines he got an offer from vikings press to start illustrating childrens books. Died on September 24, 19991.

Anne Frank:
Annelies Marie Frank, born in June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany and died in March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp, Germany, Anne Frank was a Jew and a victim of the Holocaust. For two years, Anne and her family had hidden in an attic to prevent being taken to the concentration camp. During the two years of their hiding, Anne Frank had written a diary to pass time and expressed her emotions. After being forced to the concentration camp, she died when she was 15 of a disease called typhus. Her father, Otto Frank, was the only person who had survived the concentration camp, and after returning home had found her diary and said he had "...no idea of of the depths of her thoughts and feelings."

Elie Wiesel:
Born on September 30, 1928, in Sighet, Transylvania (later Romania), Elie Wiesel pursued Jewish religious studies before his family was forced to relocate to Nazi death camps during WWII. Wiesel survived, and later wrote the internationally acclaimed memoir Night. He has also penned many books and become an activist, orator and teacher, speaking out against persecution and injustice across the globe.
