Diction: The author has to chose between words to make the imagery the best possible. It is choosing the best words to make the sentence flow right. For example in a sentence you could saw the pot broke or the pot shattered. If you said the pot shattered it shows more of a visual picture.
Imagery is a visual description of figurative language. It is a flow of thoughts you hear, see, feel, smell, or taste. Imagery is shown through the emotions of the author and displays a visual picture as a you read. It helps the reader feel connected and understand what is going on. In Night by Elie Weisel he says ""From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me. The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me." Chapter 9, pg.109. This describes and shows a picture to the reader what Elie is feeling while he is at the concentration camps. He feels like there is no point to life, as though his death is waiting and calling his name. He shows what he sees, a look from his father that he could never forget. A look of tiresomeness and confusion.
Elie Weisel and Anne Frank's books are both alike because their books are based off of their lives in the concentration camp. These authors are reliable because the books were written from first person point of view. Nothing was made up it was all written from what they felt, heard, tasted, and touched. The point to writing these books was to inform the reader of how cruel the jews were. In The diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank she wrote, “They mustn't know my despair, I can't let them see the wounds which they have caused, I couldn't bear their sympathy and their kind-hearted jokes, it would only make me want to scream all the more. If I talk, everyone thinks I'm showing off; when I'm silent they think I'm ridiculous; rude if I answer, sly if I get a good idea, lazy if I'm tired, selfish if I eat a mouthful more than I should, stupid, cowardly, crafty, etc. etc” - Anne Frank. Anne Frank displays a visual of how she feels inside like she can't let anything out, She feels trapped and in despair.
Dr.Suess' grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts. Many of the images in his books are reflected off of his hometown landscape/view.
For example, the pictures in Horton hears a who the elephant is wandering along the stream reflects on the water courses in Springfield's forest park. He drew police men riding red motorcycles, which is the traditional color of motorcycles in Springfield. "The fanciful truck driven by Sylvester McMonkey McBean in The Sneetches could well be the Knox tractor that young Ted saw on the streets of Springfield." Dr. Suess's images all reflect on his childhood which obviously means he had a good childhood and liked where he lived. All of his stories were written to entertain his readers.
